The New Forest was created as a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror, a place of few fences where livestock were left to roam. To this day ponies, cattle, donkeys and pigs range freely, which means they're often found beside or on the roads. We share the forest with these animals and although we know that all roads are dangerous we don't always show it.
This is a story of road safety and common sense as seen from the viewpoint of the animals that live in the New Forest. A cautionary tale of living side by side with the car, and the consequences of getting it wrong.
All the New Forest Friends books aim to entertain and educate. In the corners of all the picture pages you’ll find four different British animals or birds that many children, and indeed adults, may not be aware live within the forest.
“You will learn all about ‘car trouble’, so be sure to ask your friends and families to drive carefully in other animals’ homes!” Chris Packham on New Forest Friends And The Metal Monsters
